There are questions that are commonly asked about Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. Dr. Cruz answers them below:
How Does STRESS Affect Us?
Stress is a reactive response due to activation of the Amygdala, the Hippocampus, and the Limbic system all leading to somatic effects that are activated by the Somatic System–> translated to increased Blood pressure, increased Heart rate, Immune Reactivity, and increased Respiration rate.
These physiologic effects will directly influence one’s behavior. Additionally, these dissociative habits frequently lead to stress related responses of the ‘fright/flight/freeze’ activation and can soon translate into adrenal failure, hormonal imbalances, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, hypersensitivities, lowering the threshold of Asthmatic triggers, symptoms of Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, and Anxiety.
What is Mindfulness?

- It is found by cultivating an AWARENESS that there is a direct interrelationship between the Heart and the Mind
- This awareness allows us to SENSE our internal and external worlds
